Lime for soil stabilisation and roadworks
Lime for roadworks and soil stabilisation with long-lasting results
Lime stabilisation is one of the most effective and sustainable solutions for soil consolidation and the construction of long-lasting roadworks. For over 300 years, Fassa Bortolo has put its expertise at the service of construction companies in Italy and abroad, offering products specifically for the stabilisation of building soils, the consolidation of slopes and embankments, and the creation of high-performance road sub-bases.
Our lime, produced through a gentle limestone firing process, guarantees a high calcium oxide content, low bulk density, and high reactivity – optimal characteristics for achieving excellent results in the stabilisation of clayey soils and the construction of long-lasting roadworks.
Applications of lime for roadworks and soil stabilisation
Fassa Bortolo lime for soil stabilisation
The use of quicklime for soil stabilisation is a well-established practice involving the addition of calcium oxide to improve the mechanical properties of clay and silt soils. Our Fassasoil line of soil stabilisation lime has been specifically developed for this application: the high reactivity of our products allows the desired strength values to be achieved using lower quantities compared to traditional limes.
Hydrated lime for asphalt: durability and performance
Hydrated lime has proven to be the most effective agent for preventing asphalt ravelling and improving its durability over time. Fassaroad H and Fassaroad HF lime products have been formulated to enhance resistance to deformation and optimise viscosity at high temperatures. Adding 1 to 3% hydrated lime during bitumen preparation effectively prevents cracking and the build-up of permanent deformations.
Lime slurry: the innovative solution for asphalts
Fassaroad, our lime slurry-based suspension, is a significant innovation for roadworks. This aqueous suspension of concentrated, stabilised hydrated lime not only improves adhesion between the new road surface and the underlying layer but also helps control emulsion temperature and reduce dust formation during works, ensuring a safer and cleaner working environment.
